More information on my status as a Masseuse
I graduated from the Cincinnati School of Medical Massage in 2002 and passed the Ohio State Medical Boards the same year and became a licensed massage therapist. In 2005 I was arrested with about a tablespoon of marijuana and a small glass pipe. When renewing my massage license later that year I honestly admitted to the arrest. Later in a letter I was told I needed to fulfill a 3 day evaluation to assess my potential addiction to an illegal substance which cost $1,500. Even though I was clean and shared how I moderately and intentionally used marijuana as a spiritual tool and to alleviate anxiety I was still held suspect of having a dangerous addiction. The Ohio Sate Medical Board ordered that for me to maintain my massage license I would have to immediately go to a 30 day rehabilitation center, (which due to their visitor restrictions would only allow my then 2 year old son an hour a week with me after traveling 3 hours and going through debriefing) After that I would have to attend 3 AA meetings a week for 2 years, submit to random drug testing for 2 years and travel to Columbus several times a year for a Board review. I felt very torn about what to do. So I listened to my Shaman’s Heart which knew that I was meant to be a healer and that no human made institution could not take away my human right to share the gifts I was given. I do honor and respect the training that I completed and how regulatory boards’ intention is to contribute to health and safety. Although I trusted in my ability to safely give massages to people willing to receive them from someone who is trained but not licensed. Fortunately it is legal in Ohio to give “relaxation massage.” I asked the clients that I had built up in my business if it would bother them if I did not complete the Board’s requirements to keep my license and they all said they trusted me and enjoyed my massages would choose to continue using my services which I gave under the title of, Masseuse. So it is up to you. I will ask that you sign a waiver of consent.
